Convener’s Note

Welcome to our site,

I am Adanna Enwezor, the Managing Director of Photizo Life Foundation and the Coordinator and Convener of the African Hair Summit.

The idea of the Summit was born in September 2015, after I had suffered burns from texturizers. I carried out a research about the ingredients in relaxers and texturizers and I was totally blown away by my findings.  I discovered just how toxic and harmful these hair products are alongside other hair and beauty products. The need to sensitize people gave birth to the African Hair Summit.

The Summit is aimed at educating men and women on the dangers of harmful hair and beauty products, showcasing the beauty in the African Natural Hair and encouraging the manufacturing of home-grown, organic hair products.

With credible organizations and individuals at the forefront of the movement, the African Hair Summit aims to restore faith in the true nature and appearance of the African woman. The summit intends to do this through the continuous campaigning in markets, schools and social events. Furthermore, with the growing need to diversify the Nigerian economy, the Summit is providing an avenue for local small and medium businesses within the organic hair and skin industry to exhibit their products, meet with key players in the industry and learn how to improve the standard of their processes. Also, business workshops are organized at the Summit to help men and women start up their own hair product lines and businesses. This, we believe will help create opportunities and tackle the rising rate of poverty.

The African Hair Summit 2016 was proudly supported by the World Bank, Sheraton Hotel Abuja, Ministry of health, the Ministry of Trade and Investment, SMEDAN, Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD), Society of Women Engineers, Technologists and Scientists (SWETS), Glisten International Academy, SHOPRITE, JCB, Belz 360 Media, Mina Stones Jewelry, Fekeye Sekida fashion house, ABS, Perfect Trust Cosmetics, Nerds and Nymphs, LUMO NATURALS and Feminitease, AIT and NTA.

A special thanks to all our sponsors and partners from the African Hair Summit 2016.  You helped make the Summit a success. We look forward to working with you in 2017.
